According to nutritionist Andreia Galliego, a specialist in sports nutrition, it all depends on the context of each person. But, thinking about the amount of protein present in each drink, we know that:
- Conventional skimmed milk (250 ml) provides 81 kcal, 12 g of carbohydrates and 8.5 g of proteins;
- Protein milk (250ml) provides 120 kcal, 11.5 g of carbohydrates and 17.5 g of proteins;
- Protein Milk Drink (250 ml) contains 160 kcal, 19 g carbohydrates and 15 g protein.
However, according to the nutritionist, it is very easy to reach the ideal protein food recommendation by consuming the 3 main meals of the day. “If for some reason this is not possible, a good protein supplement can help,” he says.
In this sense, the expert emphasizes that protein supplements are products designed to complement protein intake throughout the day. “Therefore, they should never replace a meal,” he emphasizes.
This is because the food matrix must always be the priority. “If the individual, for reasons of routine or life context, does not have availability during the day to consume the adequate protein requirement, the supplement can be an option that will be defined and prescribed by your nutritionist”, concludes the professional.
