Portugal starts accepting the Brazilian driving license


Change the benefits Brazilians living in Portugal travelers may already drive with the Brazilian document

Portugal will accept the National driving license (CNH) of Brazil as a valid document for driving in the country. The amendment was approved by Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on July 8 and will apply to the entire Portuguese-speaking Community (CPLP) after being published in the Diário da República.

The change will benefit the Brazilians living there Portugal, which currently have a 90 day period after the permanent residence permit to exchange the Brazilian driving license for the Portuguese driving license. For travelers who visit the country for tourism, nothing will change. It has always been possible to rent and drive vehicles using the Brazilian CNH in Portugal for up to 185 days.
