Japanese foods that only exist in Brazil

Just like the pizzas, which have undergone several adaptations when they were brought here from Italy, the “Brazilian Japanese” food is also very different from the traditional one found in Japan. This is because the cuisine had to adapt to our tastes when it came here with the immigrants. And we know it too Brazilians love to make adjustments and increase food from around the worldtherefore, it could not be otherwise.

Ingredients like strawberry, cream cheese, and Nutella may seem strange to the Japanese, but that’s because they haven’t seen how far our creativity goes.

Check out the list of Japanese foods that don’t exist in Japan (Brazil only!):

Temaki in the cup

After the pie in the pot, the salad in the pot and even the hot dogs in the pot, a new Brazilian classic has emerged: temaki in the pot. Loved by many and hated by many, after all consists of a mixture of Japanese rice, cream cheese, diced salmon and chives in a glass. Of course, this is not the only combination, just like the classic temaki, you can fill your temaki in the glass however you like.

hot roll

It is one of the most loved sushi by Brazilians, but it does not exist in Japanese culture. This is because there, there is not even the possibility of a sushi being breaded and friedif you put the cream cheese on it, it gets even more absurd.

aramaki

The mixture of acarajé and temaki could only be our creation. Basically it consists of a Japanese rice ball breaded and fried in palm oil with temaki filling, which can be salmon, cream cheese, shrimp and much more. It sounds absurd, but it’s Brazil!

Sweet sushi with strawberry, banana, chocolate, hazelnut cream etc.

The sky is the limit when it comes to sweet sushi, it can be a banana breaded with Nutella on top, or one common sushi with Japanese rice stuffed with the most varied fruits, such as guava, strawberry, mango, banana and much more. It sounds like the ideal Japanese dessert, but never dare to tell a Japanese.

sushi burger

Well… it goes without saying that this is not a typical Japanese dish. The name says it all, but it’s worth explaining, in this recipe the the bread is made with Japanese rice breaded with panko flour and the filling is salmon with cream cheese and chives. It can also be augmented with tarê sauce and soy sauce.

Sushi with rice, beans, steak, fries, salad (aka: self-service platter)

The typical self-service dish here in Brazil would cause a lot of weirdness in the Japanese. This is because we are not ashamed to mix all the foods of the world in one dish. Rice, feijoada, lasagna, pasta, sushi and morehere all this is easily eaten in the same meal.

Sushi and sashimi of Brazilian and freshwater fish

In many Japanese restaurants in Brazil we find combinations with Brazilian fish and freshwater fish, they do not exist in the typical cuisine, that’s why they are not fish commonly found in the region. This isn’t as far-fetched as the other threads on the list, but it’s worth mentioning.

Sushi with sausage, stroganoff temaki, sushi pizza

It has some quirky options that we don’t even need to put on the list, does anyone know this is impossible in Japan. Among the most bizarre are these: sushi with sausage, stroganoff temaki, sushi pizza, sushi with doritos and sushi easter egg.
