Woman Makes Self-Serve Salad at Home to Encourage Her 9 Kids to Eat More Vegetables

An American content producer went viral on TikTok when she showed off how she created a self-service restaurant with a salad bar so her kids could eat more vegetables. A mother of nine, Melanie Cade, 37, shares her parenting routine on social media.

“How often do you refill your salad bar? I refill the top once or twice a week, depending on how busy we are that week and our needs for that particular week. The bottom has two refrigerated sides. I keep plates and salad bowls on one side so they stay fresh and ready to go,” she explained in the caption.

Q: How often do you refill your salad bar? A: I refill the top once or twice a week, depending on how busy we are that week and what our needs are for that particular week. The bottom has two refrigerated sides. I keep the salad plates and bowls on one side so they are refrigerated and ready to go. If one of our kids doesn’t care about what we have planned for lunch or dinner, they are welcome to eat at the salad/sandwich bar. As a reminder, before I upgraded to this standalone salad bar, I incorporated the same concept into a drawer in our refrigerator using plastic containers from Walmart. This is totally doable, you just have to be a little creative with your space and budget. Looking for a salad bar of your own? Check out my Amazon storefront. Link in bio! 🥗

If one of our kids doesn’t like what’s on the menu for lunch or dinner, they can eat at the salad/sandwich bar. “As a reminder, before we switched to this freestanding salad bar, I incorporated the same concept into a drawer in our refrigerator using plastic containers from Walmart. This is totally possible, you just have to be a little creative with your space and budget,” she added.

The video has had more than 7.5 million views and features the mother topping the salad with fresh lettuce, mushrooms, hard boiled eggs, turkey breast, fresh broccoli and other salad or sandwich options.

In the comments, many people liked the idea and plan to adopt it at home. “I need money to buy a salad bar at home,” commented one follower. “My mom said it would be okay if I moved into your house,” joked another.

“This is brilliant… this would work perfectly for my ADHD… because I often oscillate between overcooking and also having trouble eating 3 meals a day,” one user said.
