Summer

During the summer, the heat can dehydrate the skin and that is why the use of moisturizers is so important during this season: “Hydration can be done in the form of creams, lotions or serums and then the use of SPF higher than 30 which can be accompanied by a specific pigment or a universal pigment that adapts to any type of tone,” explains the doctor.

When you agree on the correct order of skin care, according to the dermatologist, it is: cleanse, tone, moisturize, protect and then apply makeup. “Try to take cold or at least warm baths, then apply a good moisturizer to your face and body. This will help prevent premature aging of the skin,” says the doctor.

The dermatologist adds: “After using soap or hygiene lotion, it is necessary to use a toner or an astringent, depending on the case. On oilier skin, it is advisable to use an astringent. For more sensitive and dry skin, it is better to use a toner that rebalances the pH of the skin, removes residual impurities and also removes residues of the cleansing lotion or soap. The ideal for this type of skin is to conclude the cleansing process with the application of thermal water, preferably cold, which has a calming, remineralizing action and promotes hydration of the upper layer to better receive the moisturizing cream that follows,” says the doctor.

Even in this season, it is essential to protect yourself from intense solar rays. “Use sunscreen every day, even on cloudy days, and avoid sun exposure between 10 am and 4 pm, when UV rays are strongest,” emphasizes the doctor.

In this hot period, it is necessary to be careful with acids, which are much less recommended, since they are generally substances that cause photosensitivity.

Spring

Just like summer, spring is a season when temperatures start to rise, so it’s essential to adapt your skincare routine to cope with the climate changes: “One of the main concerns this season is sun protection. With the increase in intensity of the sun’s rays, it’s important to use sunscreen daily,” explains Claudia.

Choose a sunscreen that suits your skin type and reapply it throughout the day, especially if you spend a lot of time outdoors.

Another important tip, according to the doctor, is to pay attention to cleanliness. “With increased sweating due to warmer weather, it’s important to keep your skin clean to prevent dirt and bacteria from building up,” says Dr. Claudia Marçal.

Winter

Winter is naturally a drier season with cold temperatures. “This creates greater exposure to warm water during bathing, wind, pollution and temperature contrasts. Therefore, the skin tends to become drier, often with flaking, redness and irritability,” she says.

The doctor adds: “The sebaceous glands produce less fat and we lose more transepidermal water, due to a lack of good formation of the hydrolipidic membrane (a film of fat and natural water that protects the skin). Therefore, in this season it is essential to increase skin hydration and avoid long baths with hot water and the use of loofahs”.

Claudia Marçal explains how often to moisturize your skin this season: “Your skin should be moisturized twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. In case of dryness or irritability, the recommendation is to use thermal water rich in trace elements such as magnesium, zinc, silicon, selenium, sulfur, as they help regulate the pH and promote rapid hydration associated with the calming effect. It can be used morning and evening after cleansing the skin, before applying nourishing and moisturizing products in the morning.

According to the doctor, it is during this cold period that some acids can be used to accelerate cell renewal, but always under the dermatologist’s prescription.

In these colder seasons, it is important to pay more attention to the lips: “The portion of the lips exposed to the environment is made up of semimucosa, a tissue devoid of keratin, that is, a sensitive tissue devoid of this dead protein that is present in the skin and has the role of a protective barrier. Just like the skin, low temperatures further interfere with the natural hydration of this skin, which can present cracks, fissures and even bleed,” explains the doctor.

Fall

Just like winter, autumn is a season with lower temperatures, so the care is similar. As for the body, since in this period we have a colder and windier climate, we tend to use synthetic clothing and also to heat the shower water: “The constant contact of hot water with the body ends up removing the protective layer of the epidermis, the skin ends up drying out”, explains the dermatologist.

“It is best to hydrate the body immediately after bathing (5 to 10 minutes) in a generous layer, with vehicles rich in creams or emulsifying oils (olive oil, sunflower oil and canola oil), which sequester the water molecule (urea, hyaluronic acid, lactic acid), plant extracts (lavender, chamomile, red fruits, aloe vera) and vitamins such as E, B5, C and F”, he explains.

Finally, Claudia Marçal emphasizes that body exfoliation is an important resource to better permeate the active ingredients present in moisturizing creams into the skin: “Exfoliation should be done in the shower, preferably with exfoliants with natural active ingredients, with smaller particles, and, if they are soaked or mixed with oils (almond, grape, argan), the benefit is even greater, since exfoliation and emollience will be promoted simultaneously”, concludes the doctor.
