Experts recommend some ways to reduce your daily sugar intake and follow the World Health Organization guidelines
Sugar consumption is increasingly present in our daily lives, as it is part of the composition of many processed foods. This factor worries nutritionists, as it could cause an increase in the number of people with diabetes, obesity and other health problems. And, according to the study published in the journal The BMJExcessive consumption could be linked to 45 health problems, including those related to brain dysfunction.
What to do to stop eating sugar?
THE World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that sugar consumption should reach 10% of total daily calories, or approximately 50 grams. But how to do it? To help you, we have received some advice from the nutritionist of Atma-Soma, Luisa Nunes. Check:
- First, avoid sugary drinks and drink plenty of water. “Sweeteners are unpleasant and condition the mind and palate to always desire sweet foods”.
- You prefer bitter foods. “Opt for leaves, boldo tea, carqueja, among others”.
- Less chocolates. “Reduce your chocolate consumption and eat slowly, until you no longer miss it”.
- Brush your teeth after meals.
- Avoid long periods of fasting.
According to Nunes, if you do a little of this every day, your sweet tooth will decrease. So, in gratitude for these tips, we celebrate Nutritionist Day, which is celebrated this Saturday (31).
