Delegate Bárbara Lomba provided new details on the rape arrest by an anesthetist
Delegate Bárbara Lomba, charged with investigating doctor Giovanni Quintella Bezerra, accused of raping a pregnant woman in labor, revealed that the drugs used to anesthetize the victims were learned to be analyzed.

Arrested in the early hours of Monday 11, after being filmed raping a patient in labor, Dr. Giovanni Quintella Bezerra, 32, recently completed his specialization in anesthesia and loved to photograph himself in hospital settings. “You will hear a lot from me,” he wrote in a post.
The doctor graduated from the University Center of Volta Redonda (Unifoa), in the southern region of the State of Rio, in 2017. The specialization in anesthesia ended this year, in April. There isn’t much information on his academic output, as his resume on the lattes platform hasn’t been updated for ten years.
Giovanni Bezerra liked to post photos of his medical routine on Instagram – the profile, however, was closed after his arrest. Several photos of him that were released on social media on Monday show the doctor in hospital uniform, the one used in operating theaters. In one of them he wrote: “Moving forward, I am gaining space in the profession I have chosen to make a difference”.
Upon receiving a rumor of arrest, the anesthetist said he did not know what was going on. After being informed by the delegate Bárbara Lomba, of the São João de Meriti police station for assistance to women (Deam), that he had been filmed practicing the abuse, Giovanni Quintella Bezerra remained silent.
The images show the anesthetist next to the patient, who is on drugs. As the surgical team prepares to begin the caesarean section, Quintella removes her penis from her pants and places it in the pregnant woman’s mouth.
Attorney Hugo Novais, who defends Quintella, said in a statement that the defense has not yet obtained access to all the testimony and evidence contained in the arrest warrant in the act of crime. “The defense maintains that it has not yet obtained full access to the testimony and evidence that was produced during the drafting of the report of the arrest in flagrante delicto.
