Every year a woman organizes a party to celebrate the freezing of her eggs

“Egg teas” have become popular on social media, with several women sharing videos of themselves organizing and attending events

Lauren Martinez, 35, did a lot of prep for her backyard birthday party in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. She set out a tray of stuffed eggs, frozen grapes, and confetti-filled syringes to line the event table.

If you still haven’t figured out the theme of the party, it’s because it wasn’t just any birthday: it was Martinez’s third frozen egg birthday party.

“I throw them a birthday party every year,” Lauren said, referring to the eggs she froze in 2021. The story was published on New York Times.

Lauren said the decision to freeze her eggs was a difficult one. “I spent a year before I did it feeling almost bitter and resentful,” she said, adding that she felt like it was a tax she had to pay for not having a “resolved” relationship.

Lauren's theme party brought together 40 guests

But after going through the emotionally and physically difficult process of freezing her eggs, she felt her successful recovery was something to celebrate.

“I was also really proud of myself for going through all those weird feelings and being in a financial position where I was able to make that decision without it being a life-changing financial decision or anything like that,” she said.

Lauren isn’t the only woman who decided freezing her eggs was something to celebrate. Several women on TikTok are sharing videos of themselves hosting and attending “egg showers.”

“Some of my friends are currently going through the process of freezing their eggs. This is such a huge, stressful, expensive process. They’re doing it all on their own: funding it themselves, handling all the logistics themselves. That needs to be celebrated,” podcast host Becky Hayes said in a social media video.
