Adriane Galisteu on Autoimmune Disease: “I Must Have Already Lost About 60% of My Hearing”

The host commented on his otosclerosis diagnosis on the podcast PodCringe

Adriana Galisteu said she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease whose main symptom is progressive hearing loss. The revelation occurred on the podcast PodCringe. According to the speaker, otosclerosis is characterized by abnormal growth of bone tissue in the ear.

She said she started showing symptoms when her son, Victorhe was 3 years old. Today he is 14. “It is a horrible disease that you don’t know where it comes from, where it goes and not even the doctors know. I am looking for a doctor who is perhaps an expert in the field to talk about it, because there he is not,” he explained.

During the chat, Adriane also said that there is no cure for the disease. “Doctors recommend a transplant after a 100% hearing loss (…). To put it bluntly: my eardrum works well, I hear well, but there is a stone that is not letting the sound pass. To remove this stone, I have to have a transplant, but they won’t let me do it without losing 100% of my hearing, because it’s not guaranteed that everything will be fine, I must have already lost about 60%. (from the hearing)“, he said.

Despite everything, the presenter says she is “lucky”, since the disease usually affects both ears, but she feels the symptoms only in one, as if it were “covered”, like on a plane, every now and then it emits a beep, causes tinnitus and gets worse”, she said.
