TV Globo’s new seven o’clock soap opera promises plenty of drama and entertainment
On September 30, the new soap opera on TV Globo, Volta por Cima, will premiere, starring Madá (Jéssica Ellen) and Jão (Fabrício Boliveira). The story takes place in a fictional suburb of Rio, but it fits perfectly with the reality of Brazilians. In a press conference, in the presence of Guia da TV, author Claudia Souto explained the reason for choosing the setting: “The choice for the suburbs of Rio is because it dialogues with the suburbs of all Brazil. It’s a story that could happen with none of us.”
The author took the opportunity to emphasize that the plot will focus heavily on the humanity of the characters, whether they are good or bad. “We talk about humanity and how relationships affect life, with doses of humor, comedy, tragedy and drama. This is a portrait of each of us.”
The rich
The plot is full of great actors, some of whom play the Góis de Macedo, a failed family that lives for appearances. Belissa (Betty Faria), Joyce (Drica Moraes) and Gigi (Rodrigo Fagundes) give life to the three spoiled people who have not yet gotten used to their new living situation.
A notable and happy presence in the plot is Betty Faria, who has not participated in a soap opera since 2020. At 83 years old, the actress took the opportunity to criticize people who behave like her character. “I think that ostentation causes a very great void, because the person will never be happy with what they have achieved. It generates the desperation to show their life, relationships and intimacy. All this to be accepted and have points of view. This is becoming a disease, because people’s interior is not taken care of. That’s why we see so much hatred, because no one takes care of themselves to improve,” she emphasizes.
Representativeness
It is with great joy that the cast defended and celebrated the presence of more black actors in Brazilian works, such as Volta por Cima. Ailton Graça revives Edson, the owner of Viação Formosa, who has become rich through hard work and does not forget life in the suburbs. “I am very rich and I like to say it. I have hair in this soap opera! My house takes up almost the entire studio. It is nice to see the ‘pretagonism’. Representation counts, yes.”
“It is so important. You have no idea of the responsibility that this soap opera entails with its protagonists. From the moment we establish this protagonism on the scene, together with Fabrício Boliveira and Jéssica Ellen, we move to another place of affection to build. Affection is what affects the other,” says the actor.
More representative, because yes!
In addition to filling the plot with incredible black actors, the telenovela will also invest heavily in the representation of the yellow audience, through actors with Japanese, Chinese and Korean origins. Claudia revealed that the work will be a bit about K-dramas, Korean series that have had worldwide success and that have as an avid consumer Tati, the character of Bia Santana. “Dealing with Asian culture has been an old desire and now it becomes a reality with the K-drama that we will show, with great attention to involving Asian actors. The genre is a global phenomenon and we want to speak to the community that watches it,” said the author.
