Miley Cyrus Sued for Allegedly Plagiarizing Bruno Mars

The singer was accused of copying the melody and chorus of “When I Was Your Man” in “Flowers”.

Singer Miley Cyrus has been sued for plagiarism in an excerpt of “Flowers” inspired by “When I Was Your Man,” a hit by Bruno Mars. The lawsuit was filed by Tempo Music, a platform that works in partnership with Warner Music Group and claims to own the copyright to the song.

In the lawsuit, the investment firm cites similarities between the songs and suggests that Miley “intentionally copied” the artist, who is not directly involved in the case. The document obtained by TMZ also claims that the melody, harmony and chorus are similar, as are the chord progressions and lyrical references.

“It is undeniable, based on the combination and number of similarities between the two recordings, that ‘Flowers’ would not exist without ‘When I Was Your Man,'” added the platform, which also criticized the fact that Miley received a Grammy Award for her composition.

Is it plagiarism or reference?

“Flowers” is a shower of indirect comments for the actor Liam Hemsworth, who has been in a relationship with the artist for almost 10 years. In the lyrics, Miley Cyrus talks about her troubled relationship, which began on the set of the film “The Last Song” (2010).

The singer also gives answers to the song “When I Was your Man”, by Bruno Mars, which the actor supposedly dedicated to Miley during their wedding ceremony: “I can buy myself flowers / I can hold my hand / Talk to myself for hours / I can love myself better than you do”, he responded in his essay.
