The singer was battling pancreatic cancer
The famous soul musician D’Angelo died at age 51 after fighting a Cancer in the pancreas, reported the American press this Tuesday the 14th.
The musician’s death was reported by the magazine People and from TMZamong other media.
THE Varietythe singer’s family said they were “heartbroken”.
“We regret that he will leave behind only precious memories for his family, but we are eternally grateful for the uniquely moving legacy of music he leaves behind. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time, but we invite everyone to join us in mourning his passing as we celebrate the gift of music he left to the world,” the family said.
Even names from the music world paid tribute. “A very sad loss with D’Angelo’s departure. We had so many wonderful moments. We will miss you so much. Sleep in peace, D’, I love you, KING,” DJ Premier, music producer and DJ, wrote on X.
Michael Eugene Archer, known as D’Angelo, was born in South Richmond, Virginia, United States. His passion for music began at the age of three, when he learned to play the piano.
D’Angelo released his first albumCane Sugarin 1995. He was a pioneer of neo soul, which mixes R&B and soul with hip hop and jazz.
The artist has won four Grammys. In 2001, he was awarded in the categories Best Performance by a Male R&B Singer for Untitled (How It Feels)and Best R&B Album with Voodoo.
