There are several consumer rights that can help you in everyday situations that you didn’t even know you had; take a look at some of them
Everyone has heard about consumer rights, but few people actually know what they are, right? Therefore, in many situations, people end up suffering. injustices of the most diverse types of businesses and they don’t know how to fight it.
According to lawyer Eros Belin de Moura Cordeiro, it is essential for consumers to know the laws to assert their rights. Professor Sérgio Czajkowski Júnior, a researcher and consultant in the areas of retail services and marketing, consumer behavior, negotiation and sales, adds that knowing this information is even more important with the increase in online shopping.
“Because we do not have truly effective control mechanisms in cyberspace, the number of frauds, scams and other practices harmful to consumers has grown significantly in Brazil and other world markets. The best way to avoid losses is through information,” the teacher teaches.
The two experts later separated 10 consumer rights advice that you may not know yet:
1- Returning products online
When you buy a product online, you have up to 7 days to regret it and ask for a refund, even if you don’t explain why. The company cannot ask you to pay for the return shipping costs.
2- Parking Responsibility
Surely you have seen signs in parking lots that say that the establishment is not responsible for damage to vehicles, right? However, this is considered an abusive practice by the Consumer Code and the place must assume responsibility for it.
3- Illegitimacy of the sanction for loss of command
Restaurants and bars cannot impose fines for losing command. The establishment is responsible for managing consumption.
4- Free package offers at banks
Banks are required to offer a package of free basic services, including debit cards, withdrawals, transfers and account statements.
5- The extended warranty is not mandatory
The warranty extension is an optional service and not mandatory when purchasing a product.
6- Product with different prices
If you see two different prices for the same item in the store, the company must sell it to you at the lower price. However, don’t think that means you can get it for free if there is no price!
7- Food at the cinema
The cinema cannot prevent customers from bringing food, nor can it require that purchases be made at the box office. This is considered binding and violates the freedom of choice of the consumer.
8- Holiday services
When you travel, you don’t have to pay for the services you get at home, like Internet and cable TV. Just ask your carrier to temporarily suspend your services and stop charging you monthly fees.
9- Children in restaurants
Another consumer right that many are unaware of is that restaurants cannot ban children from entering.
10- Featured Product
Sample pieces are also covered by warranty, as the sale of products already on display does not exempt the supplier from carrying out any repairs for defects that prevent proper functioning.
