Dark discharge: what could it be?

The follower says she had unprotected sex after taking a contraceptive injection

Doctor, I had unprotected sex about two weeks ago. I had the contraceptive injection on Wednesday and had sex on Friday, two days later. But before that I was already on the pill and we also used coitus interruptus. On Monday I had brown discharge, what could it be?

Look, you were taking the pill regularly, then you switched to monthly or quarterly injections. You had sex and you didn’t use a condom, but you were hormonally protected.

Also, you have performed coitus interruptus (removing it when you ejaculate). The possibility of an unwanted pregnancy is very unlikely.

But what could this brown discharge be? It could be due to the effect of changing your birth control method. Maybe you had what we call mid-cycle discharge or “spotting.”

It may also have happened that during sexual intercourse you slightly injured yourself, causing a little bleeding. This blood oxidizes, undergoes some processes and then becomes dark in color.

Or you may have been exposed to an STI (sexually transmitted infection), because you had unprotected sex. This discharge can be caused by this STI.

My recommendation is, since there are many possible hypotheses and this bothers you, to consult your gynecologist to find out what is going on and get the best guidance possible.
