Lawsuit points to similarities between Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’ and Mars’ ‘When I Was Your Man’

Miley Cyrus is being sued over similarities between her hit “Flowers” and “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars. According to a document obtained by PeopleTempo Music Investments — which owns part of the rights to the music of Mars — filed a lawsuit last Monday, the 16th, in a Los Angeles court arguing that there are “striking similarities” between the two songs.

“It is undeniable, based on the combination and number of similarities between the two recordings, that ‘Flowers’ would not exist without ‘When I Was Your Man,'” Tempo’s representatives said. The lawsuit further claims that “Flowers” “duplicates several melodies, harmonies and lyrical elements” from “When I Was Your Man.”

“Therefore, Plaintiff in this action brings a claim of copyright infringement arising from the unauthorized reproduction, distribution and exploitation of ‘When I Was Your Man,'” they added.

Who is being sued and who is suing

Tempo Music Investments is suing Miley Cyrus, Gregory Hein and Michael Pollackwho composed “Flowers”, as well as Sony Music Publishing and Apple. Mars is not cited as one of the authors of the complaint.
