Boxer Imane Khelif arrives in Milan during fashion week

Boxer was the target of attacks in Italy during the Olympics

Target of attacks during the Paris Olympics, Algerian boxer Imane Khelif is in Milan, Italy, which is hosting Women’s Fashion Week until September 23.

Behind the scenes at the event, one of the world’s largest events of its kind, word is that the Olympic champion in the 66-kilo category will be invited to a parade.

On his Instagram Stories, Khelif posted a video with the caption “Ciao Milano,” with the city center as a backdrop, set to the classic Italian song “Sarà perché ti amo,” by Ricchi e Poveri.

Wearing a T-shirt and hat, he also waved and blew a kiss to his followers.

The 25-year-old boxer faced harsh criticism in Italy, including from members of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government, during the Paris Olympics, after eliminating Italian boxer Angela Carini, who had withdrawn early from the fight.

Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini even called Khelif a “man,” a statement he has never retracted.

The episode also sparked a wave of attacks against the Algerian from the global far right, including the endorsement of billionaire Elon Musk and “Harry Potter” author JK Rowling.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) made the news public to ensure that the boxer is a woman, while the athlete’s father showed photos of her when she was just a girl.
