Urologist Dr. Octávio Campos says that with early diagnosis the chances of recovery can reach 90%.
The global prostate cancer awareness campaign, Blue November, warns men about the importance of early detection. In Brazil, according to the National Cancer Institute (INCA), this disease is the second most common type of cancer among men. Compared to other countries, such as the United States, Brazilian mortality is still high, with around 15,000 deaths per year.
“The misconception about preventive tests, such as rectal examinations and PSA, keeps many men away, but early diagnosis is key. With an early diagnosis, the chances of recovery can be as high as 90%,” explains urologist Dr. Octávio Campos. He emphasizes that awareness is the greatest ally in reducing mortality.

In addition to preventive tests, it is important to be aware of warning signs that may indicate prostate problems, such as difficulty urinating, increased urinary frequency, especially at night, weak or interrupted urine flow, feeling that the bladder is not emptying completely, blood in urine or semen in addition to pelvic or bone pain in advanced cases “These signs should not be ignored. When you notice symptoms, it is essential to see your doctor as soon as possible,” warns Dr. Octávio.
The campaign also highlights the importance of maintaining healthy habits, such as a balanced diet and regular exercise, to reduce risks. “Blue November continues to be essential to break taboos and encourage prevention among Brazilian men, promoting a better quality of life and, above all, earlier diagnoses”, underlines the specialist.
