Experts give tips for reviving the bold hair and makeup style of the ’80s with a modern, summer-friendly twist.
After a long phase marked by the “clean girl” style, with natural hair and light makeup, the audacity of the 80s returns to dictate beauty trends.
Inspired by pop icons such as Madonna, Cindy Lauper and David Bowie, this vibrant look, full of intense colors and surprising sparkles, has conquered the public, especially with the support of TikTok influencers and famous artists, such as singers Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and , recently, Beyoncé.
However, not everyone feels comfortable fully adopting the style. For these people, makeup artist Luiza Santos and hairdresser Sandra Pinke, of Jacques Janine Vila Leopoldina, offer guidance on how to incorporate ’80s elements in a gradual and balanced way.
Trick
The make-up artist Luisa Santos suggests starting slowly with makeup, without using all the elements at once. “Start slowly, choosing one or two features you identify with most, to get used to the look.”
According to Luiza, for those who want to highlight their lips, the ideal is to choose an intensely colored lipstick, complemented by a dark pencil and a surprising blush, maintaining harmony with the colored shadows.
“If you want to highlight your lips more, for example, choose a bright lipstick color and draw a darker shade of eyeliner, add a more pronounced blush and an eyeshadow, following the color palette,” she explains.
Those who prefer to highlight their eyes can opt for vibrant eyeshadows. These options can be paired with a nude lipstick or even an open red. For an even bolder touch, Luiza suggests metallic eyeshadows and lipsticks for those who love shine.
Hair
Voluminous hair, fringes and mullet cuts are some of the styles that marked the 80s. For an updated and simple version, go to the hairdresser Sandra Pinke recommends cuts like the “shaggy” and “wolf cut,” which offer relaxed, cropped layers and a slightly messy fringe.
“There are variations, such as the shaggy and wolf cut, which feature layers, tips and fringes, with a messy effect and at the same time lighter and looser than a mullet,” says the professional.
In everyday life it is possible to keep your hair natural, with accessories such as butterfly piranhas, which were popular at the time and now return with everything in various colors and materials. For more sophisticated events, Sandra suggests using products that increase volume, bringing even more of the ’80s aesthetic into the look.
