Dogs of this breed are famous for their robust and muscular body, with a tender and attached personality to their family.
Recognizing a bulldog is easy. Either because they are more robust and muscular dogs, or because most representatives of the breed have a flat face and a wrinkled muzzle. There is also the fact that, despite their more serious appearance, they are animals with engaging personalities. But what are the differences between different types of bulldogs?
The bulldog breed is made up of a few variations, each with its own particularities and some are easier to spot around than others. THE Estadao listed the most common ones and what to expect from each.
English Bulldog
The English bulldog is the most traditional and well-known type. It is that bulldog that people tend to associate with the name of the breed. A classic example is the character Spike from the animation Tom and Jerry. They are known for their “ugly face”, but they are affectionate and kind.
They have a striking appearance, with a compact, muscular body full of skin folds. The English bulldog is a symbol of strength and serenity. Since they have a calm and affectionate temperament, they are a great option for families who expect calm and loyalty from their pet.
French bulldog
This is a smaller, more energetic version of bulldogs. They have large “bat” shaped ears. This makes them easily recognisable. Because they adapt easily to urban life (they don’t need a lot of space and can’t get much exercise due to their respiratory problems), they are often found in large cities around the world. In Paris the little ones have become the symbol of chic life.
This is a very sociable breed and tends to get along well with other animals. They are ideal for families and anyone looking for a friendly, outgoing dog. This dog is perfect for those who have little space, such as apartments, but still want a dog with a lot of personality.
American Bulldog
This version of the bulldog is larger and more muscular than other variations. They have a protective and very loyal temperament. It was bred to do herding and protection work and has become very popular as a guard dog. The reason for this would be your ability to sense when there are problems in the environment. This is also why they make great service dogs.
Mini French Bulldog
If you think the French bulldog is small, there is also a smaller version, the Mini French Bulldog, which looks more like a smaller version of its relative. The characteristics are the same as the breed that originated it, from loyalty and attachment to the owners to the energy level of these little ones. It’s like it’s just a compact version, which takes up less space, but can make the same mess. Like any dog of the breed, it can have respiratory problems due to its short muzzle.
Exotic bulldog
This is a new type of dog breed. It is basically a hybrid that brings together the traits of several varieties of Bulldog, including the English Bulldog and the French Bulldog. Animals of this breed have a unique appearance, but maintain the same qualities common to any bulldog: loyalty and attachment to the guardian family.
