The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends its use remedies against worms as a periodic treatment for people at increased risk of parasites living in areas with a higher prevalence of the disease. This risk group includes children from 1 to 14 years and workers such as miners and some field workers.
People living in areas with a parasite prevalence greater than 20% should receive treatment every year, and if the prevalence is greater than 50% they should receive treatment every 6 months.
Gastrointestinal parasites affect up to 34% of the Brazilian population in some poorer areas. The lower the basic sanitation conditions, family income and educational level in a community, the greater the presence of parasitic infestations in this population.
