The approach of the end of the year can represent a period of pause, rest and reflection. It’s the perfect time to “recharge your batteries” and prepare emotionally for a new cycle. Check out six tips that will help you improve your mental health!




1 – Do what you like best

Do you belong to the world of extreme sports? Or do you prefer quieter programs? Identify what this has to do with your expectations and, if possible, break out of your routine to enjoy a different weekend, whether at a relative’s farm or at an inn. Some hotels and water parks offer “day use” mode: you can enjoy the facilities for a day without having to stay overnight. It’s an affordable way to see the city without putting a strain on your wallet.

2 – Restore ties

Corporate gatherings are common during the holiday season. They represent not only an opportunity to celebrate professional successes, but also to get closer to colleagues from other departments and, who knows, make new friends. If you don’t currently work or are a freelancer, get together with people from college, church, apartment building or gym to celebrate the end of a cycle. A renewal of emotional bonds is always rewarding!

3 – Learn something new

Find schools, associations or service clubs that offer one- or two-day creative workshops. On Saturdays and Sundays you can learn meditation, dance, crafts, photography, drawing, among other activities. Learning is important to broaden points of view and form new connections. The investment is often low and, in some cases, there are sponsored workshops that only require students to use the materials used.

4 – Reinvent your corner

Changing the look of a room in your home is not synonymous with breaking things. In other words, without the need for renovations, it is possible to reinvent the living room and bedroom with new or recreated accessories, transforming the energy of these spaces. Can’t spend it? No problem: you can find good things at thrift stores or yard sales. On social media, look for swap groups to make profitable deals. 5 – Break the routine

How about a picnic with the kids in the family? Or an afternoon dedicated to board games with friends or relatives? Take advantage of your days off to have fun with the closest people in your life and, in this way, create new memories. You can also opt for a new look or try a new food recipe. Getting out of routine helps in emotional preparation for the new cycle, because it stimulates creativity and the ability to improvise.

6 – Validate experiences

A year has passed and you are closing another phase. It’s time to reflect: what have been the most significant successes of the last 12 months? What about the mistakes you don’t want to repeat? “We must learn from our mistakes or give new meanings to what we have experienced,” suggests psychologist Edinéa Morilha. It teaches that it is important to value the present moment. “We have no control over what will happen tomorrow. We can plan for tomorrow and even change plans, but there is no way to control what will come. On the other hand, we can live what we want today.”

“Day of Nowhere” helps those who need to rest

The psychologist underlines the importance of introducing “the day of nothingness” into the holiday calendar. What is it about? A day to enjoy your own company, without the need to fill your free time with activities. “It’s a day to surrender to yourself, to connect with yourself and love your own company,” he teaches.

On that day or time of day (morning, afternoon or evening), you can go to the movies alone or prepare a special meal to enjoy without guests. “On the ‘day of nothingness’ it is possible to choose different paths, or simply lie down, look at the sky and give a name to the drawings that form in the clouds”, proposes Edinéa. It is a day in which the main commitment is not necessarily to do something, transferring worries to subsequent moments and thus enhancing the opportunity to rest.
