Luigi Mangione is suspected of killing Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHeathcare
A life-changing back injury for Luigi Mangione may have been the factor that set him on the path that would culminate in the murder of UnitedHeathcare CEO Brian Thompson. This is what the investigations indicate, according to the Chief of Detectives of the New York Police, Joseph Kenny, in an exclusive interview with NBC, this Thursday the 12th.

“It appears he had an accident that required him to go to the emergency room in July 2023 and that was a life-changing injury,” the officer said.
“He posted x-rays of the screws inserted into his spine. So the injury he suffered was a life-changing injury, and that’s what may have led him down this path.”
According to US police, there is “no evidence” that he was a customer of UnitedHeathcare and that he could have targeted the company as it is one of the largest healthcare organizations in America.
Furthermore, in alleged writings to which the police had access, Mangione allegedly wrote that he wanted to use a gun to hit the CEO of a large company at a conference. “What are you doing? You beat up the CEO at the annual pest bean convention. It’s targeted, precise and doesn’t put innocent people at risk,” was written in a notebook that may have belonged to him.
“He knew in advance that the conference would be held on that date, in that place.”
The crime took place on the 4th, in front of a hotel in New York. The killer managed to escape after the crime, but his image was captured by security cameras, triggering an intense search for the perpetrator.
Found with Mangione were a weapon similar to the one used in the crime, a silencer, false identities and a poster criticizing healthcare companies for putting profits before patient care, as revealed by Jessica Tisch, supervisor of the New York police .
On Tuesday the 10th, the United States Police released new photos of Luigi Mangione showing the boy sitting inside a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, while eating, before being arrested on the 9th.
Critical to profits
Luigi Mangione, 26, a suspect in the murder of UnitedHeathcare’s CEO, was highly critical of North American companies that provide health plans. According to a manifesto he wrote, published by the newspaper The New York Post, the sector is only interested in making “huge profits” at the expense of the population.
According to the newspaper, the boy wrote a manifesto of more than two pages and turned to the authorities. The document was recovered by investigators after his arrest last Monday, the 9th.
“The reality is that these [empresas] they have become very powerful and continue to abuse our country for immense profits,” he wrote.
In the text he also apologizes for any trauma he may have caused, but that “it had to be done”. “Frankly, these parasites expected it,” he said, also complaining that the United States has “the most expensive healthcare system in the world.”
After Mangione’s arrest backfired and his identity was revealed, internet users quickly found profiles posing as his on various online platforms. Some posts on X (formerly Twitter) have attracted attention. Among these, a quote from the book Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, in which he criticized capitalism and the bourgeoisie.
In another publication, this time on Goodreads, during an evaluation of the book Industrial Society and Its Future, by Ted Kaczynski, he criticized large corporations. “[Elas] They don’t care about you, your children or your grandchildren.”
