Many people start preparing for the New Year in late November-early December and only remove the decor at the end of January. Therefore, it is so important that the design of the premises pleases the eye, creates a festive atmosphere, but does not become a source of visual noise.

Colors of the coming year

The main trend is the domination of a single color in design. To avoid creating visual noise, it is recommended to use no more than two colors and a minimum of shapes. The classic New Year decorations are burgundy and burgundy, and this year these colors are at the peak of their popularity. Those who want to create a stylish interior in calm colors should pay attention to silver, gold and white.

Trendy New Year’s toys

Jewelry made of velvet and satin, transparent glass and crystal, as well as surfaces imitating metal are in fashion. It’s best to focus on one thing at a time – this will create a comfortable space that feels luxurious, but not flashy. For example, if the Christmas tree is decorated with toys covered in velvet, the same material should be used to decorate the gifts in the Christmas tree area.

Bows, clear icicles and large plain balls are popular. Tall candles also look good (for safety reasons, it is better to take those with installed LED bulbs that imitate the flickering of a real fire). They can be placed not only on the Christmas tree, but also on a table or shelf. But for them to be truly impressive, they must be numerous and dominate the composition.

Anti-trends in New Year’s decoration

Previously, it was fashionable to place the figures of Santa Claus and Snow Maiden under the Christmas tree, but now such decor should be abandoned. Such jewelry is only appropriate if it is made to order or produced in a limited edition, is of high quality and has an original design. It is best not to use figures from the general public. But rain has become a trend again, and it can be used as a mono-decor for decorating a New Year tree.

You should not decorate windows with snowflakes, hang socks for gifts, decorate houseplants with New Year’s toys and garlands – all this has already gone out of fashion, creates visual noise and ” devalues” the interior. If you really want to incorporate this into the design, you can do it in the bedroom or nursery, but not in the common areas.

Artificial or natural tree?

A natural Christmas tree attracts with its subtle aroma, which many associate with the New Year holidays. But its main disadvantage is its fragility: the needles quickly fall off, and cleaning them can be tedious.

Among artificial Christmas trees there is a wide selection of options that differ in design. They are often thicker and bulkier than natural ones, making them more presentable. Those who like a non-standard approach are recommended to pay attention to spruce trees with unusual colors – blue, orange, silver, gold. If you make a composition out of it, focusing on an interesting shade, you won’t even have to decorate such Christmas trees, because this decor will already be an accent.

Potted Christmas trees are also popular. But you need to think about where to place them after the holidays. And, as a general rule, these trees must then be replanted in open ground. Natural Christmas trees look great in the design of the entrance area of a private house or townhouse.

Alternative to the Christmas tree: original New Year compositions

The Christmas tree is a popular, but not obligatory, attribute of the New Year. A festive mood can also be created using compositions in vases, hanging decorations and wreaths.

New Year’s bouquets in vases

Classic – the use of spruce branches in compositions. Artificial spruce branches are the most practical for decorations. Large clusters of berries also look original in bouquets. The trend this year is the use of large branches of interesting shapes without leaves in compositions. All these elements can be combined and supplemented with the previously mentioned decorations – candles, satin and velvet ribbons, bows, transparent icicles and other plain decor.

Tall compositions in vases will be appropriate on a windowsill, on a specially designated piece of furniture, a large kitchen island or a buffet table.

New Year’s wreaths

It is customary to decorate exterior and interior doors with New Year’s wreaths. They would be appropriate on the wall or window. Connoisseurs of the classics can choose a wreath made of spruce branches – it never goes out of fashion. Lovers of unusual solutions should pay attention to options made of cotton, thread or twigs with artificial berries.

Compositions of ceramic figurines

Ceramic Christmas trees are well suited for creating a New Year’s composition. To make them interesting, it is worth purchasing options of different sizes, but compatible with each other in color or style. Only Christmas trees and nothing more – that’s how they will look as impressive as possible.

In order not to make a mistake with New Year’s decor, you should adhere to simple rules: use no more than two colors, create only one accent shape, strive for minimalism and non-trivial solutions. This year, unique objects with an unusual story are highly valued in New Year’s decoration.
