A new type of telephone scam is emerging: you have to know it!

At the end of July 2022, Sberbank announced the emergence of a new type of telephone fraud. You’ve probably heard of a scammer’s favorite trick – they usually pose as bank security guards and ask if the person is really trying to transfer money to someone N.

A scared cardholder usually says that he will definitely not make a stranger happy with his money. After that, the scammers ask the victim to name three numbers that will come in the SMS, apparently to prevent the operation. But anyone who announces these figures will immediately lose all the rubles in his account.

In July 2022, thieves found a new way to cheat. Now they pretend to be employees of mobile phone companies and say that someone has connected SMS forwarding to another number. To cancel this operation, explains the polite “employee” of the operator, you need to dial a short command on the phone.

But the effect will actually be the opposite: if you follow this recommendation, the device will be reconfigured – now all your incoming text messages will be automatically redirected to the crooks’ phone – including one-time banking passwords.

It’s especially dangerous if you don’t even know it: after setting up message interception, all SMS will only reach criminals and you won’t even receive a message about resetting your accounts. Thieves will have complete freedom of action: they can shop online or go to the Internet bank account.

It’s simple – immediately end the call, then call the operator back and personally find out whether company employees really call customers to inform them about the problems that have arisen.

Remember this golden rule: no negotiations with “specialists” from banks or other organizations who have called you themselves should be allowed! Always hang up and contact the company yourself – this is the only way to save your money.
