Avoid hangovers and stick to your diet! The nutritionist gives advice to those who want to enjoy the summer holidays without straying too far from their healthy routine
The beginning of the year is full of parties and celebrations, especially due to the summer heat. Nightclubs, barbecues, beach trips and carnivals can ruin any healthy routine. Above all because, with so many meetings outside the routine and in a short time, it is difficult to resist temptation and maintain a balanced diet. However, particular attention must be paid during gatherings to avoid exaggerating and having consequences on the size and health in general.
Jaqueline Albino dos Santos, nutritionist at the integrated health app Personal Virtual, says that, even if it seems impossible, it is possible to take advantage of these moments without losing results or deregulating the body. After all, eating what you like is part of a balanced life. Check out some expert advice:
Opt for lighter foods throughout the day
To best balance the amount of calories to be consumed during the day, an excellent tip is to choose lighter foods in the meals before the main one. Just because you stop your diet at night, for example, doesn’t mean you have to “kick the bucket” during the day.
The nutritionist also underlines the importance of consuming small meals during the day to be well nourished and not to overdo it. “By maintaining this care, you guarantee that your metabolism will continue to function properly and you will be fuller, without feeling the need to consume a large amount of food during the meal,” explains the professional.
Pay attention to quantities
As common as the idea of taking a small piece of each dish is, if the variety of foods is very large, this practice can lead to an exaggerated portion and, without us realizing it, going beyond the ideal.
Jaqueline advises that, in order not to deprive yourself of the pleasures of holidays, it is interesting to establish priorities. That is, select only the dishes that you really like. “A tip is to take a plate and put what you will eat on it and not ‘nibble’, so you don’t lose track of how much you are eating,” he recommends.
Drink lots of water
Regardless of the time, water consumption is essential for the functioning of the body. It helps deflate the body and aids the digestion process, which is more complex due to foods rich in carbohydrates and sugars, which are very common on party tables, explains the nutritionist.
Be careful with alcohol
If you consume alcohol, Jaqueline points out that you need to pay attention to the calorie content of the drinks: each gram of alcohol contains around 7 kcal, she points out. If possible, drink only on a full stomach to slow down the rate of absorption of the drink. “Another way to reduce the effects of alcohol is to alternate consumption with drinks such as natural juices and water, which will rehydrate the body,” he says.
Make smart substitutions
When celebrating, good choices shouldn’t be left aside, as simple substitutions can ultimately make all the difference. ”Soda, for example, offers no health benefits. Therefore, it is preferable to consume natural juices and water. When dessert time arrives, eat a small amount of your favorite dessert and above all enjoy the fruits so characteristic of this season”, explains the nutritionist.
With moderation and a few precautions it is entirely possible to enjoy the magical moments of the end of the year without giving up your diet. If you eat too much, don’t try to compensate by not eating. Get back to your workout routine and healthy eating.
