December and January are considered the best months for gyms across the country
Summary
At the beginning of the year many people try to get into shape, but the rapid search for the “perfect body” can cause complications and mental illnesses.
“New year, new life”. Many people use this saying when a new year begins and new goals are set for the next 365 days. And, for many of them, the term “new body” is also added. Gyms are heading towards the best fitness season, when the number of registrations increases significantly. According to a survey by the Bluefit network, which has units across the country, including Goiânia, growth reached 20% at the beginning of the year.
But what are people looking for? According to the manager of the Bluefit gym at Estação Goiânia, Murilo Augusto Soares de Araújo, new members generally want to be physically fit for year-end parties, trips and even carnival.
“The biggest demand is related to creating an ‘ideal body’ for end-of-year celebrations, such as Christmas, New Year, celebrations, social events and travel. We have also noticed that the demand for personal trainer services is also significantly increasing, especially to make up for lost time with bad habits, also seeking rapid results in the summer period and in proximity to Carnival”, he says.
To accommodate new students, gyms increase the number of employees and even increase class sizes or implement new methods. In the network unit at Estação Goiânia, according to Murilo, the timetable of collective lessons gains more space in the daily program. “We have strengthened our group lesson program, placing an emphasis on the most popular modalities these days, such as FitDance, to satisfy the growing interest of students,” he explains.
The results come in the long term
The search for the “perfect body” can quickly collide with reality. Mental health experts warn that it is necessary and preferable to set achievable goals to avoid complications and mental illnesses. For psychologist Adriane Garcia de Paula, people can get sick because they are looking for something outside of reality and are unable to achieve the goals they initially set.
“It may happen that a person begins to look at what he doesn’t have and only wants what he doesn’t have. This makes people more depressed, because generally negative feelings, negative processes, feelings of frustration, feelings of inadequacy prevail. And so that the person does not fall into this, he needs to review his concepts of what it means to live, how he lives, what reality is like and what he can get the most out of this reality process,” explains the professional. .
The psychologist warns of the importance of experiencing the process, in this case, of building a body considered ideal, which takes time.
“Life has become increasingly based on momentary processes, rapid processes. I have seen that people also do the same and nowadays there is no maturity. We see people falling more into depression and anxiety, for example, because they want the perfect body and end up not getting it. What depresses people the most today is this search for the ideal, for the perfect,” says Adriane, who works at Clínica Inepsi, in Jardim América.
The Bluefit leader at Estação Goiânia agrees and says that people looking for a quick result need to have patience and discipline. “The expected result does not arrive magically and instantly, especially when thinking about long-lasting and healthy results. Although it is possible to observe positive changes in just a few months of training, the path is gradual and will depend on dedication and consistency, not only in regular exercise but also in a balanced diet. It is important to understand that a healthy body does not only take into account aesthetics but also well-being, character and mental health.”
For 2025, Murilo recommends that “people stay motivated with a long-term focus, creating sustainable habits that bring benefits for a lifetime, and not just for a specific date.”
