Become a tree after death: all about Mundi capsules – an ecological alternative to cemeteries

Mundi capsules are a new way of burying, which promises a person the continuity of the life cycle.

Have you thought about death? About what will happen next? But the Italian designers Anna Sitelli and Raoul Bretzel thought about it. They were worried that there were less places for burials, the environmental problem is growing exponentially, then they came up with the idea of the Capsule Mundi project.

Become a tree after death: all about Mundi capsules – an ecological alternative to cemeteries

The Mundi capsule is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional burial (i.e. coffins and cemeteries).

The goal of the project: to become a tree after death, thus ensuring the continuity of the life cycle.

Sounds good, doesn’t it? The idea is that the body of a deceased person is placed in a special eco-capsule (in a fetal position – as a symbol of rebirth), buried in the ground, and a tree seedling is planted on top. In this way, the body becomes a source of many nutrients, and a beautiful, strong and healthy tree grows from the seedling. Choice of oak, pine, spruce.

Such a beautiful, elegant and inspiring redesign of dark gray cemeteries. Just imagine: you do not come to the grave of a soulless gray stone, but of a living plant, the leaves of which make noise, as if whispering and trying to tell you something.

Eco-activists are unsurprisingly enthusiastic about the idea and welcome the opportunity to leave something for the planet after death. And continue to take care of her when you are gone.

The tree becomes a monument to a deceased person, a wonderful heirloom for posterity. And for the future of the planet. Imagine: a dense and living forest will appear on the site of an endless silent cemetery.

From such a place does not breathe sadness. On the contrary, it is very easy to imagine a situation in which you go with the whole family to a picnic near a tree that grew from your grandmother or another close relative.
