Gracyanne Barbosa, fitness icon and source of inspiration for thousands of Brazilians, is back in the spotlight with her participation in the 25th edition of the BBB and, above all, thanks to her impressive dietary routine, which involves consuming around 40 eggs a day. The habit has attracted the attention of enthusiasts and experts, raising debate about the ideal amount of eggs that can be consumed without health risks.

With BBB the question arises: are eggs healthy?

According to nutritionist Letícia Lenzi, of Clínica Eclissée, eggs are one of the most complete and nutritious foods available, being an excellent source of high-quality proteins, vitamins and minerals. “It is especially appreciated by those who practice physical activity, for its contribution to muscle growth. However, it is essential to understand that excessive consumption can pose health risks”, warns Lenzi. In other words, even with the BBB fame, excessive egg consumption requires nutritional monitoring!

The professional explains that, for healthy people, consuming one to three eggs a day can be beneficial, as it increases good cholesterol (HDL) and helps reduce bad cholesterol (LDL). For athletes, like Gracyanne, recommendations may vary. “For those who practice intense activities, up to six eggs a day may be recommended, but it is important to limit the yolks, as they concentrate cholesterol,” he explains.

The importance of individuality and balance

Letícia emphasizes that there is no “magic” number of eggs per day. “Requirements vary depending on factors such as gender, weight, level of physical activity and history of diseases. A balanced diet must take all these aspects into account.”

It also highlights the role of preparedness in healthcare. “Frying eggs or combining them with high-calorie fillings, such as fatty cheeses, can negate their benefits and add harmful fats. Ideally, cook them well, avoiding runny yolks, which can contain Salmonella bacteria.”

More than a protein: a health ally

Eggs are rich in choline, essential for brain function, and lutein and zeaxanthin, which help prevent eye diseases. Furthermore, the albumin present in egg white is a powerful ally in muscle hypertrophy. «But the secret lies in moderation. Excessive consumption of eggs, like any other food, can overload the liver and kidneys, compromising long-term health”, concludes Lenzi.
