One is intended for obesity and one to diabetes, but both can help in weight loss. Understand what differs between Wegovy and Ozepic
Recently, the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has approved a weekly injection medicine dedicated exclusively to the treatment of obesity. This is Wegovy, whose active ingredient is traffic light. The substance is also present in Ozempica, a drug present in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
The traffic semaglutide is an analogue of the LPG-1 hormone, synthesized in the intestine. He has as one of his functions to reduce the amount of blood sugar after meals and report to the brain that the stomach is satisfied. The effect of the hormone produced by our body lasts only a few minutes, while the semaglutado extends during the week, reducing the hunger of the long -term patient.
Wegovy X Ozempic
Wegovy received Anvisa’s approval, but there is still no right date for his availability in Brazilian pharmacies. Ozepic is available on the market. It is important to emphasize that although they have the same active ingredient, only Wegovy has the approval to treat obesity and overweight in Brazil.
According to Gabriella Mendes, an endocrinologist at the Anchieta hospital (Taguatinga-DF), part of the Kora Saúde group, the use of Ozempic in the treatment of obesity occurs outside the label. “This term means that there is no package insert for this recommendation, but its use is supported by robust and reliable scientific studies, which is a frequent practice in medicine,” says the doctor.
According to the endocrinologist, for the effectiveness of the traffic light in the treatment of obesity, a dosage of 2.4 mg per week is required, which is present in Wegovy. Ozepic is only available in doses of 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg and 1 mg. That is, therefore it has the same effect as Wegovy requires more than an application. “Therefore, the arrival of the new medicine will be important,” explains Gabriella.
Precautions and against indications
Ozepico is a safe drug, but the patient should pass through the evaluation of a doctor to check if there are contraindications or specific precautions. “Studies demonstrate safety and effectiveness in a specific population that has indications for the use of the drug. Therefore, it should only understand that profile of the people in which there was a study,” says the professional.
The use of follow -free drugs -up can bring a series of health risks. This is because often some basic treatments are not taken into consideration. In addition, the patient still risks side effects such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, reflux and gas. Fortunately, it is possible to minimize them with some care indicated by the doctor.
Furthermore, due to the chronic character of obesity, patients who use the semaglutado without follow -up can occur and indiscriminately may have a breaking of the weight after the drug. “Weight loss cannot be based only on the use of medicines. Patients should change their lifestyle by performing an adaptation of food and creating a training routine”, concludes the expert.
