The researchers of the Universities of Newcastle and Leeds, both in the United Kingdom, have discovered that the consumption of a banana per day can play an important role in the prevention of cancer, especially in hereditary cases.
The study accompanied patients with Lynch syndrome, a hereditary condition that increases the risk of developing certain tumors before 50 years. The results stressed that the doses of sturdy starch, a substance present in the fruit, reduced the incidence of the disease by about 60%.
About a thousand patients participated. They received doses of 30 grams of robust starch equivalent to the present in a banana per day for a maximum of 20 years. In the long term, a considerably lower number of cases of cancer related to syndrome in the group that received the supplement was observed compared to those who took placebo.
The only condition that did not have any benefit was colon -termination cancer. However, the daily consumption of banana has obtained earnings mainly for tumors of the upper gastrointestinal tract, esophageal cancer, stomach, bile tract, pancreas and duodenum.
