According to a survey of the fair, 77% of women avoid the cell phone while driving and 87% pay constant attention to the report
Summary
Studies show that women are more cautious drivers and are responsible for a lower percentage of fatal accidents. The data-def data indicate that between January and April 2024, 87.33% of the fatal occurrences in Brazilia involved men.
Despite the popular saying “woman behind the wheel, constant danger”, several studies have already shown that this sentence is only pure prejudice. Last year, for example, the Federal District Traffic Department (Detran-DF) issued data showing that it is less involved in serious accidents than men. Of the fatal occurrences recorded between January and April 2024 in the Brazilian capital, 87.33% had men behind the wheel, while only 8.99% concerned female drivers.
Given this study and so many others who have already shown it, the question is: what factors do they contribute to the most prudent conducting women? “We wanted to further investigate the problem to understand how the behavior of women is and identify the habits that make them more cautious. What we find strengthens something that studies have underlined for a long time: the direction of women tends to be more cautious, with a less useless risk taken,” says Dhaval Chadha, CEO and Co -Found.
One of the results concerns one of the main enemies of the safe direction: the mobile phone. The Brazilian Traffic Medicine Association (Abramet) indicates that, currently, the use of the steering wheel is the main cause of the lack of attention while driving and that the possibility of a driver is involved in an accident when reading a message is 400% higher than what remains attentive. Fortunately, the vast majority of women is free from this risk.
This is due to the total of 324 interviewees, 77% avoid using the mobile phone while driving. On this problem, the survey also studied how often drivers use the device and the result has been positive again: 37% say they never use and 42% said that only rarely, in case of emergency.
In addition to this safety measure, other good habits cultivated by many women constantly pay attention to the report and pedestrians (87%), avoiding a risky overtaking (80%) and ensuring that everyone wears the seat belt (76%). The latter cure may seem insignificant, but the reality is that the Brazilian population has left this practice aside. According to the Arteris Survey published last year, the number of light vehicles victims of accidents that did not wear a seat belt grew by 29%.
“The data show that women not only guide more caution, but they care about the safety of everything inside and outside the car. Guarantee that passengers have safety belts, respect the report, worry about pedestrians and avoid risky overtaking is a big difference in reducing accidents. Dhaval.
Remember that, according to Abramet, the use of the belt reduces the risk of death and serious injuries to passengers in the front banks and up to 44% for the occupants of the rear seats of the vehicles involved in the traffic requests.
Good drivers, but still the goal of prejudice
Even by adopting these good practices, the interviewees have said they have already faced prejudices or negative comments because they are behind the wheel – and the frequency with which drivers live this situation is not low. Total polls, 32% reported having passed it a few times and 23% said that the lines prejudiced and/or derogatory are frequent.
“The fact that so many women still face prevented comments behind the wheel shows how obsolete stereotypes remain rooted in society. These judgments are not based on data and end up obscuring a very clear reality: the prudence of female traffic contributes directly to everyone’s security. We must change this mentality and recognize that traction competence should be measured by responsible behavior, not
Despite this culture that makes women in traffic, they know they go well on the asphalt. 61% of respondents said they consider themselves good drivers and another 34% would positively evaluate their performance, but they believe they can improve it. When it comes to evaluating the male conduct compared to the female, 64% replied that women are more prudent than men.
To the question about what contributes to the lack of traffic safety, they mainly indicated the consumption of alcohol or drugs before driving (83%), followed by excess speed (79%) and aggressive behavior of the driver (77%). The lack of attention (76%), the mobile use of the steering wheel (73%), bad road conditions (64%) and driving with sleep or fatigue (60%) were also very cited reasons.
“When we observe the main factors that make traffic insecure – as at high speed, aggressive direction and alcohol consumption – it is clear that these pipes are much more associated with risk behavior, which is predominant among men. Women, on the other hand, adopt a more defensive posture, contributing to a safer environment. If we want to reduce accidents and save lives, it is essential to encourage this type of direction and the struggle of culture,” Highlights Dhaval.
Information on the improvement points, the right research has identified that the female audience could develop the habit of checking brakes, tires and lights before led: 57% said they had done it while driving. However, this group is already much ahead of so many others and serves as an example to inspire others to contribute with a safer and more responsible traffic for everyone, strengthening this safety should be a shared priority among all drivers, regardless of the genre.
