Porto Alegre Chamber discuss the license to treat menstrual symptoms
The municipal council of Porto Alegre has started the debate on a new invoice that proposes the concession of the health license for women who face serious symptoms during the menstrual cycle. The proposal, presented by the director Jonas Reis (PT), tries to guarantee a removal of up to four days a month, provided that he accompanied by a medical certificate. The initiative aims to provide adequate treatment and time for the recovery of symptoms such as cramps, nausea, headache and diarrhea, which can compromise the well -being of women.
Director Jonas Reis stressed that the menstrual cycle is a natural phase of women’s lives, but in some cases it can be accompanied by disabling symptoms. Among the most serious symptoms there are intense cramps and other problems such as vomiting, which can compromise the health and productivity of workers. In this context, the proposal aims to ensure that the woman is able to rest and recover her health, without prejudice to the work environment.
The idea behind the project is to recognize the need for medical recognition for the treatment of menstrual symptoms, which, according to the director, is often overlooked in the company environment. The license would be granted on the basis of a medical certificate, which would guarantee the menstrual safety of women, ensuring that they do not need to choose between health and fulfillment of their professional obligations.
The debate on the subject is underway in the city council and has yet to undergo discussions and votes. If approved, the project can become an important measure to promote gender equality at work, ensuring that women can face the symptoms of the menstrual cycle in a more comfortably and safe way.
