The four-time champion of the category won the Sprint race held this Saturday at the Circuit of the Americas, in Texas, United States. In a turbulent start, Max Verstappen got off to a good start and distanced himself from the McLarens, who were involved in another accident at the first corner and remained out of the rest of the race. This benefited Max Verstappen even more, who with the victory reduced the gap to the championship leaders by eight points.
During the start, Charles Leclerc and Yuki Tsunoda also got along very well. The Monegasque jumped from tenth to fourth place. Tsunoda jumped from 18th to seventh place. After five laps the Safety Car left the track and the restart was given. First Max Verstappen, followed by Russell and Sainz.
Almost halfway through the race, George Russell lunged at Verstappen, throwing them both out of track limits. The maneuver generated complaints from Verstappen. In the fight for third place, Hamilton overtook teammate Leclerc and chased Sainz.
After the initial pressure, Russell no longer posed any danger to the leader, who opened up about 3 seconds and won another Sprint, the thirteenth of his career. Verstappen now has more Sprint race victories than all other winners combined. 13 wins against 12.
On the penultimate lap, another contact, now between Lance Stroll and Esteban Ocon. The Brazilian Gabriel Bortoletto, who started from last position, benefited from the touch and finished 12th. The accident brought the Safety Car back onto the track, which was only removed on the last lap.
