Apples and pears, two delicious and popular fruits, often duel in the debates on which is the most nutritious. Both offer a variety of vitamins, minerals and fibers, but their slightly different nutritional compositions make them more suitable for specific needs.
“Both Apple and nourishing fruit and offer similar health benefits, being sources of fiber, antioxidants and micronutrieous compounds”, explains Dr. Eliana Teixeira, a post-graduate doctor in endocrinology and nucleology.
According to the expert, the pear tends to have a little more soluble fibers, while Apple has a greater variety of flavonoids – which act in cell protection and in the prevention of chronic diseases – and phenolic compounds.
“In nutritional terms, there is absolutely no higher than the other. The ideal is to include both in food to exploit their complementary characteristics and obtain greater diversity of nutrients,” he adds.
