The gynecologist Dr. Mariana Rodrigues, a specialist in the treatment of endometriosis, explains that the condition is characterized by the abnormal growth of endometrial tissue in the regions outside the uterine cavity. One of the most common symptoms of the disease is the strong and frequent colic. However, even women without endometriosis can feel this discomfort. So how to differentiate menstrual cramps from a frame of endometriosis?

The first step is to understand that having so many intense cramps is not normal. “One of the problems of endometriosis is that there is a culture that has menstrual cramps is normal, but it is not always the case. The woman who has strong, disabling and progressive cramps, which in every cycle become more intense, should be aware, because this is one of the main signs of endometriosis”, explains Mariana.

The doctor underlines the symptoms that all women should be careful to guarantee the correct diagnosis of endometriosis. In this case, it is ideal for treatment as soon as possible. In addition to changing menstrual colic, there are other problems that should be observed:

  • Bleeding in the stool;
  • Palpable abdominal mass;
  • Intestinal changes;
  • Pain to evacuate or urinate;
  • Happy pains.

If one of these symptoms appear, parallel to the cramps, the woman must be looking for a specialist as soon as possible, highlight the expert.

Treatment and prevention

“We have seen an increase in cases of endometriosis, which is mainly due to external factors such as exposure to pollutants, pesticides, stress and lack of exercise

According to her, a healthy diet, accompanied by exercise and stress control activities, contributes not only to the treatment but also to the prevention of endometriosis, including the return of the disease. “It is worth remembering the importance of having followed a doctor to treat the disease,” says Mariana.

The treatment of endometriosis can be clinical or surgical. “To alleviate the symptoms of women who do not want to remain pregnant and who have no indication of surgery, we make a hormonal block, to cease menstruation, we recommend the use of phytomies, vitamins and anti -inflammatory diet. And we have also oriented the practice of physical activity and pelvic physiotherapy associated with an aggregation”.

According to Mariana, the treatment should be performed for the whole life of the woman, for monitoring and avoiding the progression of the disease.
