This Tuesday 6 May, the Inaugurated Capitis route, in Monte Belo sul, the signs of the regional script of the new option in Serra Gaucha, one of the main tourist destinations of Rio Grande do Sul.

The path is a tribute to the maximum symbol of immigrant support in those new lands, Faith.

The route begins in Bento Gonçalves, in the church of Santo Antônio, considered the beginning and end of the route, and crosses the rural and urban areas of each of the 10 participating municipalities. Overall, there are 15 sections for walkers for a total of 330 km or 350 km for cyclists.

“This project is a real milestone for the entire mountain, being proud to start it in the commemorations of the 150th anniversary of the immigration. The course of the Capitreis is the enhancement of a rich religious inheritance that has based the construction of our societies in the” itinerary region.




The capitis route crosses capitals, churches, chapels and caves and can be traveled by car, bicycle or feet.

The inauguration of the Via della Capite celebrates, precisely in the year of the celebrations of the sesquicentenary of Italian immigration in the state, all the cultural herities inherited from the people who emigrated to the mountain.

The new tourist product, which will have a food and wine and cultural activities, has an official opening scheduled for December 2025 and covers the following municipalities: Bento Gonçalves, Monte Belo Do Sul, Santa Tereza, Pinto Bandeira, Garibaldi, Carlos Barbosa, Colonel Pilar, Boa Vista do Sul, Immigrant and Farroupilha.

But what is a capitel?

These small chapel -shaped buildings are often built on the roadside in honor of Santos or to thank for graces for graces.

Historically, Capitel is the upper art of a column, present in different architectural styles, such as Greek, Romans and Indians.

The purpose of this ornament, however, is to distribute the load and avoid pressure at a certain point.

Monte Belo do Sul, one of the cities of the route, is famous for the annual polentao in honor of the dish of the symbol of the inheritance left by Italian immigration.

Last year, for example, the event characterized two gigantic polenta, gastronomic options based on food and artistic attractions, such as the curious exhibition of sculptures made with … Polenta.

However, the main attraction of the party is the fall of a giant polenta with about 800 kg, which has a free distribution to the public of the party.

Another unmissable attraction of the city is the visit to Galpão from Mesacaza, where one of the last Tanoeros of Serra Gaucha, Eugenio Mesacaza works.

Eugenio and his son Mauro maintain the tradition of creating artisan barrels, also with the fall of the number of orders, due to the increasingly common use of the stainless steel tanks in the cellars.

In Monte Belo do Sul, however, the production of barrels is made with woods such as balm, Cabreúva, Uraggio, Umburana and renewed oak.
