The expert explains several questions about asthma, from the symptoms of the disease to how his control is
According to the National Health Survey (Ministry of Health/Ibge), 6.4 million Brazilians over 18 years old have asthma. Chronic airway inflammatory disease brings several symptoms that can interrupt people’s quality of life.
“Cough, lack of breath, hissing breath and breath, which is that pain that the patient pulls the air and has the feeling of having a weight on him, which does not allow him to breathe well”, lists the allergist and the immunologist Barbara Britto, who serves the complex clinical center of Orion. According to her, it is important that the population is aware of the disease, also to be able to recognize it.
“In children under the age of 2 years, when they present the first episode of hissing breath in life, we call this photo of the bronchiolitis. After which, if the child continues to have episodes of chest crew, especially when it becomes fluid, it is called the recurrent syblant, which it is possible to do some theater. Spirometry,” he explains.
The allergologist underlines that asthma can be confused with other diseases and also to live with them.
“Asma must have some other differential diagnoses with other lung diseases such as pulmonary emphysema and fungal lung diseases. However, asthma can be together with other diseases that worsen, such as reflux, obesity and obstructive sleep diseases,” he explains.
Astma is a disease without healing
Remember that, since it is a chronic disease, asthma does not care. “But you can go to remission. Patients who correctly deal with your illness, at some point in your life, can be so well controlled that you can remove continuous drugs,” says the expert.
In addition, there are some studies that show that people have several phenotypes and asma genotypes. “So some patients may have asthma during childhood and then pass. When it starts a little older, after 5, 6 years, it can have a period with asthma and improve in adolescence. And there are patients who will open the asthma card only about 30, 40 years. The treatment is performed through inhalation devices, the famous continuous use bombs,” says the expert.
However, it is important to have the diagnosis as soon as possible to start treatment. Therefore, the worsening of the scoreboard is prevented and further improves the quality of life.
For Barbara Britto, there is no shortage of treatment for the disease, but the correct treatment is missing. “Less than 50% of asthma patients are well controlled. Most of a emergency room rather than correctly treating the disease at home,” he says.
