The futuristic concept of the city brings impressive and monumental images

The government of Saudi Arabia has released footage of a 500 meter high linear city called The Linewhich will be built near the Red Sea as part of Neom, a 26,500 square kilometer planned transnational economic zone to be built in the border region of Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt.

Defined to extend 170 kilometers in northwestern Saudi Arabia, the megastructure, which will feature mirror facades, will be 500 meters high but only 200 meters wide.
An alternative proposal

The line was designed as a dramatic alternative to traditional cities that normally radiate from a central point.
According to the Dezeen website, while not officially announced, the megastructure is presumed to have been designed by North American studio Morphosis.
“At the launch of The Line last year, we engaged in a revolution of civilization that would put humans first based on a radical change in urban planning,” said Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman. .
“The designs unveiled today for the city’s vertical layered communities will challenge traditional flat and horizontal cities and create a model for nature conservation and greater human livability,” he continued.
“The Line will address the challenges humanity faces today in urban life and shed light on alternative ways of living.”
monumental structures

The structure will consist of two wall-like constructions that will delineate an open space between them.
At 500 meters high, the pair of buildings will become the 12th tallest building in the world, as well as being by far the longest.
The facility, designed to house nine million residents when ready, will have residential, commercial and recreational areas, as well as schools and parks.

The different functions will be stacked in an arrangement described by the creators of the city as Zero Gravity Urbanism.
The images show parks located between the two linear blocks, which will be connected by more bridges and covered by more green space.
It will be entirely covered with mirrored facades to give the city a unique look.
“The Line will have a mirrored exterior facade that will give it a unique character and allow it to blend with nature, while the interior will be built to create extraordinary experiences and magical moments,” said the Saudi Arabian government.
A transport system along the megastructure would be designed to connect both ends of the city in 20 minutes.
In search of a sustainable city

According to the Saudi Arabian government, the facility will be powered entirely by renewable energy and is designed as a sustainable alternative to traditional cities.
“We cannot ignore the liveability and environmental crises that plague the cities of our world and Neom is at the forefront of providing new and imaginative solutions to these problems,” said Bin Salman. “Neom is leading a team of the brightest minds in architecture, engineering and construction to make the idea of building upward a reality.”

“Neom will be a place where all people around the world can make their mark in creative and innovative ways,” he continued.
The project, first unveiled last year, is part of the Neom initiative in northwestern Saudi Arabia. Neom is part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative to diversify its economy and become less dependent on oil.
