An introduction to Halloween for the whole family
Sweet thrills, thousands of pumpkins and hints of magic: this year, UGC is thinking of budding moviegoers with the perfect program to introduce them to the joy of Halloween.
For the youngest, there’s Mon Petit Halloween, a short film program specially designed to introduce Halloween spirit to audiences ages 3 and up. Here, ghosts are evil, monsters are funny, and adventures are cute. In short, excitement has never been so good!
Among the essential titles is The Nightmare Before Christmas, an ineffable masterpiece by Henry Selick (James and the Giant Peach, Coraline). Perfect for transitioning seamlessly into the end-of-year holidays, The Adventures of the Legendary Jack Skellington is a true gem of poetry and imagination that will delight animation fans ages 8 and up.
A timeless gothic classic
Halloween is also a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the classics of Gothic cinema, especially the unique world of the great Tim Burton. Written by Burton himself, A Nightmare Before Christmas comes The Funeral Wedding, a dark and elegant love story with the voices of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, but also the catchy tunes of Danny Elfman. As macabre as it is sublime, this beautiful tale offers the most compelling first approach to the afterlife!
Who said Halloween had to be gray and cold? With dark humor and a good dose of nostalgia, make an appointment with The Addams Family! Inspired by the Charles Addams comic book characters made popular by the TV series of the same name, this feature film will delight fans of gloomy mansions, disgusting quirks and one-sided fans who shouldn’t be disoriented by the deliciously gritty tone of the hugely popular Wednesday series.
Thrills are guaranteed for seasoned audiences
Warning true horror fans: UGC is restoring two monuments to zombie cinema, signed by George A. Romero. First, Night of the Living Dead, the founding masterpiece of modern horror, is restricted to children under 16. Breathtaking and haunting, this independent film achieved such public and critical success that it was presented on June 16, 1970 at MoMA – the Museum of Modern Art – in New York as a true piece of modern art.
In addition to this first film, (re)discover Day of the Living Dead, not for children under 12, a terrifying sequel to the first opus in which the dead were able to conquer the world. Then two solutions appear to the few survivors: flight or fight. Definitely a screening you won’t get out of unscathed… sensitive souls refrain except in cases of acute cinephilia!
From October 26 to November 2, UGC will celebrate Halloween in 41 cinemas across France.
