Training without previous evaluation can be dangerous, even in young people

Heart under pressure, also for young athletes

Specialist warns silent heart problems and strengthens the importance of exams and follow doctors before starting or intensifying training

The race for physical performance and the good shape is bringing more and more Brazilian to gyms, clues and fields. But, according to experts, the heart does not always follow this rhythm. Without a correct previous evaluation, intense training can reveal or aggravate silent heart problems such as arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies and changes in heart valves, conditions that often have symptoms until serious complications occur.

“Exercise is a great ally of health, but if practiced without a guide, it can expose important risks, especially in people with predisposition to heart disease. I have already participated in young sportsmen who, apparently healthy, have had changes that have been detected only in the image exams. In some cases, an intense practice could have led to an unwanted complication”, explains the cardiologist to ..

Vascular overload

The indiscriminate use of anabolic and supplements also attracts the attention of doctors. Even with the follow -up medical and nutritional, these substances overload the cardiovascular system, increasing the risk of hypertension, arrhythmias, heart attacks and even sudden death, including individuals under the age of 30. They should only be used in scientifically proven medical indications.

According to Dr. Tito, exams such as the echocardiogram, resonance and cardiac tomography play a key role in the early detection of changes that can go unnoticed in rapid consultations. “The electrocardiogram and blood tests are important, but alone they do not capture all the problems. The cardiac image, if correctly requested, allows you to further evaluate the structure and the function of the heart, preventing unpleasant surprises”, he says.

Search a doctor

With the growth of the number of amateur athletes and physical activity professionals in Brazil, the debate on cardiovascular evaluation and on prevention protocols gains urgency. The expert recommendation is clear: before starting or intensifying training, in particular of high intensity, seeking a medical evaluation, performing the exams indicated and avoiding the use of substances without prescription.

“Taking care of the heart does not mean giving up performance, but ensuring that you can train and compete for many years with safety and health. There are no shortcuts”, concludes Paladin.
