The doctor teaches how to alleviate the ear pain and the sensation of the covered ear, very common on air trips and by car from the mountains
Air or car travel in the mountains can cause ear pain and other discomfort. They go to pain or pressure on the head, on the teeth and even on the face. Otorhinolaringoologist Bruno Borges de Carvalho Barros explains that this feeling occurs due to the sudden change of pressure during take -off and landing, or the time when the car is.
“This discomfort can spend in a few minutes after the end of the trip, but depending on the duration of the flight, this can increase,” he warns.
Thinking about how to avoid pain, the expert gives five precious advice to those who intend to travel soon. Check:
1 – Valsalva Maneuver
This is a method that increases the inventaracic pressure to equalize the pressure of the ears. “It consists in keeping your mouth closed and squeezing the nostrils with your fingers while forcing the exit of the air through the nose. You have to take care to control the aeronautics so as not to worsen the pain,” he explains.
2 – chew
According to otolaringoiatra, chewing rubber or food, preferably hard, such as apple or carrot, can help balance the pressure in the ear and avoid pain. This is because this movement forces the face muscles to move and swallowing helps to reduce the sensation of the covered ear.
3 – provide yawn
The yawn helps in the responsible movement of the activation of the bones and the muscles of the face, releasing the hearing tuba and promoting the balance of pressure, says the doctor.
4 – compressed heat
Bruno recommends making a hot compress in the ear for about ten minutes in case of pain, since this helps to relieve the discomfort caused by pressure.
5 – Nasal spray
Until duly indicated by the octopalingist, the nasal spray helps in the passage from air to the other. In this way, the pressure is more easily rebalanced, explains the doctor.
