Some types of cheese help improve memory; check

Packed with brain-boosting nutrients, cheese can help with memory and even bone health, but it’s important to know how to choose the right kind

As we age, it is natural for memory and concentration to undergo some changes. However, food can be a great ally for brain health – and in this role a common food on the table of many Brazilians stands out: cheese. Rich in proteins, amino acids and minerals, it can help protect cognitive function and even improve mood. But not all types offer the same advantages.

What the experts say

Experts explain that the best cheeses for memory are those low in saturated fat, since an excess of this type of fat is associated with a greater risk of dementia and cerebrovascular disease. Among the most notable varieties are: ricotta, ricotta, traditional ricotta, fresh cheese, feta and low-fat mozzarella.

These cheeses provide amino acids such as tryptophan and tyrosine, which help in the production of serotonin and dopamine, neurotransmitters linked to pleasure, concentration and well-being. They are also rich in vitamin B12, calcium and phosphorus, essential nutrients for optimal brain function.

An ally also for the bones

The benefits of cheese go beyond the mind. A study published in the journal Nutrition health and prevention BMJ revealed that Jarlsberg cheese, originating from NorwayIt is excellent for bone health. According to researchers, a daily serving of 57 g helps increase levels of osteocalcin, a hormone linked to the strength of bones and teeth. Furthermore, moderate consumption of Jarlsberg does not increase cholesterol and may even improve the absorption of calcium and magnesium, preventing conditions such as osteopenia and osteoporosis.

How to include cheese in your routine

You can consume cheese in a balanced and tasty way, varying the preparations throughout the day. For breakfast, fresh cheese or plain cream cheese are good options. At lunch, feta goes well with salads. And at dinner, ricotta can be used in tarts, pâtés or light desserts. The secret is in balance: the more natural and less processed the cheese, the better it is for the body and mind.
