Increased demand for surgery
But the discussion about the operation did not grow only on the networks … In an exclusive investigation, the American-Canadian news site vice news found that after the abolition of the right to abortion at the federal level, there has been an increase in demand for vasectomies across the country.
On the same day of the decision, June 24, a clinic specializing in the procedure – and which was interviewed by the portal – reported that its website received more than 1,300 visitors, while the average was 400 users per day.
“Usually, we have a busy schedule of two to four weeks. Now, we are scheduled for the next three months. We have seen a dramatic increase in inquiries and contacts through our website and phone, ”said Charles Monteith, director of the North Carolina-based medical center.

Vasectomy in Brazil
Vasectomy is a much simpler procedure than female sterilization, tubal ligation. According to the Ministry of Health, male surgery prevents sperm circulation by removing a small portion of the channels that carry gametes.
As some of the users who went viral on social media claim, the procedure takes up to 20 minutes and can be done in the doctor’s office, without the need for hospitalization. The surgery will make the patient sterile, but it will not interfere in any way with hormone production and sexual performance.
In the United States, the procedure is regulated by each state. In the case of Brazil, vasectomy is only available for over 25 years or those who have at least two live children – subject to the authorization of both spouses. However, exceptions can be made if the patient, partner or child is at risk.
However, it is important to add that this reality may be about to change, since the bill that guarantees the possibility of voluntary sterilization from the age of 21 and without the consent of the partner, only the presidential sanction is awaited. Check it out here.
