Chia water consists of mixing chia with a glass of water and the juice of a lemon and promises to help the intestines function.
One thing is certain: TikTok loves setting new trends in beauty and wellness. One of these is called chia water, a supposedly sacred remedy for constipation. But does the homemade recipe really work?

According to – countless – videos on social networks, the mixture has become known as an “internal bath”, a way to cleanse the intestines and, in fact, collaborate in the evacuation. The mixture consists of two tablespoons of chia, half a lemon and a glass of water. Before drinking the potion, however, many tiktokers recommend “resting” the drink for a while until it becomes more gelatinous.
In the videos, network users not only record themselves as they prepare the drink, but also as they drink it and give updates after ingestion, also showing whether or not it worked (discreetly, of course!).
WHAT IS AND WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF CHIA?
“Chia is a seed rich in fiber, omega 3, protein and minerals, such as calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and zinc,” explains the nutritionist. Clariana Colaco . “They are also rich in B-complex vitamins. They can be consumed in salads, fruit, dairy products, breads and desserts. As well as being super healthy and versatile, they add flavor and texture to foods.”
It is for reasons like these that chia is considered a superfood and the benefits only increase with daily consumption. According to the professional, the fibers present in chia improve intestinal transit, collaborate in the reduction of cardiovascular diseases and regulate the glycemic index of foods.
“Vitamins and minerals together increase immunity, disposition and health in general. All are super oxidants, promoting cell renewal. In addition, the B complex contributes to the beauty of nails, hair and skin,” he continues.
ACQUA DI CHIA: HOLY REMEDY FOR CONSTIPATION?
According to the nutritionist, chia water is a mixture of chia with water to hydrate the seeds. The ideal is a mixture of 1 tablespoon in 1 glass of 250 ml of water at room temperature. Lemon is optional – it can be added or substituted for another food to add flavor and other benefits.
“This mixture forms a gel which, once consumed, slows down digestion, favoring the satiety of our body. It is therefore recommended to ingest it upon waking to promote good intestinal functioning, or before main meals to increase satiety and decrease appetite , which leads to weight loss, “Clariana explains.
In other words, there are, yes, advantages to the mix. However, it needs a lot of attention. According to the nutritionist blending is beneficial, but never isolated . Chia naturally has fibers that make it easier for the gut to function, however, it alone does not do wonders.
“It must always be associated with an adequate water intake during the day. In addition to the high consumption of fruit and vegetables, which are also rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals. It is always combined with the practice of physical activity. Set of healthy actions that they help health as a whole, as well as intestinal health, “says the professional.
That is, if you face constipation often, know: chia water alone will not solve the situation. A healthy gut works as long as you:
- Follow a diet with high-fiber foods such as chia
- Drink an adequate amount of water (at least 2 L / day)
- Consume fruits and vegetables
- Practice physical activities frequently
