The Centro Cultural Coco de Umbigada, located in the district of Guadalupe, Olinda, in collaboration with Cabaça – Saber Ancestral and nin la croix, promotes the first edition of “Casa de Oxum – Saúde LBT”, through meetings to talk about anatomy and cycles of bodies with vagina and natural medicines, cures and treatments, among other topics that permeate intimate, sexual and reproductive health.

“Our goal is to save forms of health care linked to African-Indian civilizing values. And this rescue is aimed at LBT people, strengthening the autonomy oriented to the specificity of each body ”, explains Carol Nascimento, founder of Cabaça – Saber Ancestral and creator of the Casa de Oxum – Saúde LBT project.

The obstetrician and physiotherapist apprentice underlines the importance of directing the initiative towards the LGBT public: “The target audience are people of dissident body and sexuality who are constantly marginalized within the health system. The project stages these people, generating a deeper sense of belonging and knowledge for these specific areas, ”she emphasizes.

Two meetings took place in August, with the alorixá regency, Mãe Beth de Oxum. The next meeting will take place next Saturday (10), from 2pm to 6pm, at Ile Axé Oxum Kare, terreiro da Umbigada, whose theme: “transgenderism and candomblé – gender and spirituality”, will feature the experience and knowledge of Pablo Oxaguiam and nin la croix. “We will talk about gender identity, sexual orientation and science of the terroir people regarding transgender bodies, minds and souls,” says Carla, mediator of the meeting. In addition to sharing knowledge, from the 20th of this month a natural pharmacy will be available to the community with herbal remedies, used in the treatment of the reproductive and sexual system, in the treatment of wounds, in the preparation of sitz baths, and also used in the treatment of problems that directly affect mental health, such as insomnia, anxiety and depression.

“For more than 10 years Terreiro da Umbigada has been promoting health actions for the entire community. The difference in what is happening at the moment is that the actions are promoted by and for the LGBT population. This project has the support of the Public Notice” Justiça is for everyone – LBT women, trans men and non-binary people in struggle “, and we intend to continue with the actions, so we are looking for new supporters”, concludes Carol.
