Watermelon tuna: an unusual recipe for thrifty people – it tastes like real fish!

Tuna is a tasty but quite expensive fish. However, if you have watermelon on hand, you can cook a vegan version of tuna. We know that sounds unusual, but it sure is delicious!

Sometimes among vegan recipes you can find really interesting options that will seem delicious even to those who do not refuse animal products. And this watermelon tuna is proof of that.

Of course, for all of us, watermelon is the main dessert in August and September. Nevertheless, the earlier watermelon was often salted for the winter. And they ate it with pickled cucumbers and tomatoes!

In some ways, watermelon resembles soy tofu. That’s why it can be used to make a more nutritious snack – called “fish tuna”.

  • Cut the watermelon into small slices 1 cm thick
  • Then pour the slices of watermelon with a mixture of soy sauce and vegetable oil
  • Chop the nori sheet and add it to the bowl of pickled watermelon
  • Gently stir the mixture and leave in the refrigerator for three hours.
  • After that, put the pieces of watermelon on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper and send them for 40 minutes in the oven, heated to 180 degrees.

The watermelon tuna is ready! If desired, it can be rolled in sesame seeds – or immediately cut up and added to future rolls. The consistency is very similar to real tuna. How, however, is the taste – although it’s hard to believe until you cook such a watermelon yourself 🙂
