Safe Pets: Decorating tips to keep your pet safe indoors

Pet is no longer ‘just a pet’ to become a true member of Brazilian families and the numbers demonstrate the relevance of this statement: according to the Brazilian Association of the Pet Products Industry (Abinpet), our country hosts the second largest dog population (55.9 million) e cats (25.6 million). And if in the past they were segregated by a restricted area of the house, today they are part of and frequent all environments: therefore, nothing more right than to adapt the interior architecture for a beneficial and happy coexistence: both for owners and pets.

According to architect Isabella Nalon, head of the studio that bears his name, the architectural professional has the experience of carrying out an interior project designed and adapted so that animals can live peacefully. “Pets need free and safe space inside the house to live with guardians, as well as space available for play and development. Therefore, it is important that this place is oriented according to the characteristics of each animal. , guide For her, good ideas and a range of materials allow you to adapt environments to improve the quality of life of pets without losing the aesthetic value of the place.

Pets and home decor

The decoration of the residence should benefit the daily life of pets. Therefore, it is essential that your tutor brings elements that do not affect coexistence with the animal. Project by Studio Guadix.

A variety of materials and coatings offer benefits that improve the quality of life of small animals. For floors, ceramic, porcelain stoneware and vinyl are suitable materials, as they bring safety and beauty to the environment. However, the resident should give preference to satin finishes, as shiny and very slippery ones damage the joint of pets, which can lead to mobility problems and greater energy expenditure, due to the lack of adhesion which requires more effort on their part. . . “The choice of flooring is the most important decision for those who have pets. In addition to these factors, it must be easy to clean and practical for the tutors’ daily life”, Isabella guides.

The materials used in the environments make the difference. In this project by architect Marina Carvalho, the carpentry has brought a good solution to accommodate Kate's bed. In the project, it became an extension of the dorm closet.

Woodworking is also considered an ally, as it is possible to create creative spaces for the animals, such as a bed next to the owner’s bed, feeders and drinking troughs. The greatest advantage of woodworking is that, in addition to following the decorative style of the environment, it is possible to fit it into the furniture so as not to interfere with circulation, freeing up space for both pets and owners.

hit the fabric

Pet friendly fabrics are essential when animals enjoy the structure of the whole house. In the case of sofas, the chosen material cannot be easily damaged by scratches and dirt. Project by architect Isabella Nalon.

Residents should also pay attention to home textiles, as the right choices directly interfere with home decor and hygiene. The market offers several fabrics that are aimed at the comfort of the animal and which, at the same time, are resistant and which provide effective maintenance and hygiene – not to mention the way they add to the look of the environment!

According to architect Marina Carvalho, in front of the office that bears his name, the most suitable fabrics are suede or leather, precisely because they are very easy to clean. The professional also reports that the carpet is another element that also needs this feature, as it is a place where pets are also a lot. “Avoid dark colors, because depending on the volume of the animal’s fur, you can see clearly on the carpet and furniture,” he advises. By completing the orientation tour, the architect Julia Guadix, head of Studio Guadix, adds the curtain as an accessory to choose based on aesthetics and practicality. “Linen and voile are beautiful, but they fray easily. So, with usability and longevity in mind, roller blinds are highly recommended for protecting windows and balcony closures,” she guides.

The choice of mat should also be considered, as pets spend a lot of time lying on them. Project by the architect Marina Carvalho.
