Great Italian food at the club

The story is as follows: after graduating in gastronomy and working in several restaurants in São Paulo, including Evvai and the extinct Girarrosto and Loi, Fernanda spent four years working in Rome. She fell in love with an Italian, they decided to get married and live there and came to Brazil to organize things. But the pandemic began, he was stuck in Italy, she was here and, with the place closed, the family business went to pieces. It was then that Fernanda had the idea of using the structure of the house to make an executive lunch. She took over the kitchen, prepared a simple menu and built an outdoor space with umbrellas at the entrance: you can have lunch there or in the charming indoor room, furnished with furniture from old bars.

The scheme is simple: choose an appetizer, main course and dessert for the fixed price of R $ 66. The suggestions vary every week.

Among the starters it can be the day of the very delicate vitello tonnato, focaccia, panzanella (the bread and tomato salad) or the spectacular version of creamed cod: it comes with a kind of millefeuille of thin potatoes and olives, decorated with delicious dehydrated polenta and then fried. On my next visit, I’m going to start with the mini parmigiana, diced, roasted and served with tomato sauce and mozzarella.

As first courses, the menu alternates classic pasta, linguine with clams, spaghetti alla carbonara, bucatini all’amatriciana with tomato, pecorino cheese and crispy bacon; rigatone al pesto with stracciatella… And there is always some signature option, such as linguine with mussels, pecorino cheese and crispy pancetta.

And among the main courses, the lamb shoulder is exquisite: well-seasoned lamb shoulder, long marinade, roasted, boned and served with pumpkin puree and mini vegetables. Other options are the fish of the day and the rump steak with quail egg and rocket salad. If you prefer, you can order the same dishes a la carte – prices range from R $ 30 to R $ 57.

Ah, Luigi and Fernanda got married in Brazil and he receives customers for lunch. The restaurant was called Sta.Matta, which in Italian means “this madman”. Here’s how Fernanda felt when she decided to serve lunch at the club …
