Stuffed animals are a favorite of kids’ toys and make great gifts for adults as well. For this reason, fabric care specialist Marinês Cassiano has listed three reasons to keep pets clean at all times.
1. accumulation of dust
The first reason why cleaning stuffed animals is so important is the material most of them are made of, which is fiber. It is, in itself, a fabric you are used to accumulate a lot of dust and is present in toys and pillows. For this reason, if there is no constant and adequate cleaning for this fabric, the toy will be very dusty or dirty, which can cause allergies or respiratory diseases in both children and adults.

If you do not have children in the house and the soft toys are decorative, it is normal for them to fall on the floor or get dirty from being on shelves that accumulate dust. This makes cleaning even more important, as this type of object becomes contaminated with bacteria and other microorganisms present in the environment in which they are found. Therefore, it is good to avoid holding your hand in the mouth or eyes when handling animals that have been standing still for a long time and always pay attention to those that are leaning against the wall, as they end up being more vulnerable to moisture.
3. Mites and molds
The fibers of stuffed animals are the perfect targets for mites and molds. These conditions are the biggest bad of the famous allergies, which develop in very humid and poorly ventilated environments, such as the bed and the sofa. For this, in addition to cleaning, the ideal is to place the toys in the sun or in well-ventilated areas to air them at least once a month.
Optimal cleaning frequency
In order for the soft toys not to deform, have damaged fibers and last longer, as regards the frequency of cleaning, Marinês Cassiano states that it varies a lot depending on some problems. “The cleanliness of this article will depend a lot on each case. If you have a child who plays a lot with the animal or already has one allergic problem or respiratory, or someone who usually sleeps with the stuffed animal, we recommend sending him to clean once a month. If it’s just a decorative element, professional cleaning every three months is enough. […]”, concludes the expert.
