Who doesn’t love a delicious lemon caipirinha ?! What a pleasure, just imagining it makes your mouth water! This drink is the perfect representation of everything that is Brazil. Super delicious, it takes lemon, cachaça, sugar syrup and ice. By the way, do you know their history? At the end of the gold cycle, in 1790, Paraty had 87 mills for the production of sugar cane and there was the birthplace of this famous and beloved drink, which is constantly produced incorrectly.
What are the most common mistakes?
It has become a tradition to make caipirinha the wrong way in different places in Brazil. Usually the preparation method in different establishments involves crushing the lemon in a low glass with the sugar. Then fill the glass with broken ice and fill it with the cachaça.
And this form is totally inconsistent, as it doesn’t have the same proportions of ingredients and each caipirinha ends up coming out one way, some with more alcohol, some with more lemon, and there are the awful ice-filled ones that get watery quickly.
Squeezing lemon directly into the glass is a mistake, as each lemon produces a different amount of juice. Even if the amount of lemon is regulated, the glass of the drink is filled with lemon pomace, which hinders the experience, as it only takes up space in the glass and makes it difficult to enjoy the drink.
What’s the right way to make caipirinha?
Therefore, the ideal is always serve the caipirinha in a taller glass and with no unnecessary solid elements in the drink, so there’s room for cachaça! Another very common mistake is to use sugar instead of sugar syrup, because sugar without diluent takes a long time to dissolve when poured directly into the drink and there is nothing worse than a drink with chewable granules of sugar!
So to avoid these super common mistakes, guarantee the perfect caipirinha and make it right, just follow the recipe below! Take a look below:
Check out the step by step guide to the perfect caipirinha:
Time: 15 minutes
Performance: 1 serving
Difficulty: easy
ingredients of caipirinha
- 60 ml of cachaça
- 45 ml of lemon juice
- 30 ml of sugar syrup
Method of preparation:
For the sugar syrup:
Dissolve, in a pan over low heat, 1 measuring spoon of sugar and the same proportion of water (this is called syrup 1: 1) or 2 measures of sugar and 1 measuring spoon (of the same used for sugar) of water (syrup 2: 1, this becomes denser). When the sugar has completely dissolved, let it cool to room temperature (put it in a glass bottle to keep it if you prepare it in large quantities).
Advice: Yes, you can use any measure (if you used 1 tablespoon of sugar, add 1 tablespoon of water for 1: 1 syrup or 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 tablespoon of water if you are making 2: 1 syrup), but it is still there. It is ideal to do with at least a glass, because the leftover syrup can be added to other preparations, such as cakes and juices.
Basically, sugar syrup is solid sugar made into a liquid form. Diluted is much better in many recipes, especially in drinks. Try sweetening your juice or smoothie with sugar syrup next time! It goes a long way and lasts a long time in the fridge.
For the caipirinha:
Put all the ingredients in a shaker and add the ice. Then, whisk everything vigorously for 20 seconds. Then strain by transferring to a glass old style with large ice cubes
Finish with a slice of lemon and, if you like, with a delicate piece of brown sugar.
